Aussie Trekka
4x4 & Camping Australia
A family of 5 from New South Wales, Australia out there enjoying this awesome country we live in.
Camping, 4wheel driving, offroad adventures and generally good times.
Dubbo to Hill End via Long Point Road.
I think there is nothing better than family time, I simply love loading the wife and kids up into the car and heading off on some random adventure. This particular one happened on the way home from one of these adventures.

I'm always looking for some other way home, you know some other back road that you have never been on. This can be a lot of fun and can sometimes make the trip a nightmare. I have had both happen a time or two.

From Dubbo we traveled to Wellington and then turned off onto Burrendong Wy. This in itself is a worthwhile back-road to take a look at. Some really beautiful views and interesting scenery along the way.

We got to our next turn off at Mullion Creek and followed Long Point Road. This turned to dirt quickly and pretty much straight away had vehicle warnings.

Driving down Long Point Road is just as expected, beautiful. You past some awesome places and see some really great farm land. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen as well. Kangaroos, wombats and more spices of birds than i could write about.

That all changes when you get to the steep decent it seems to go straight down next second you are at bottom and running along side the river. When we got to the Macquarie River crossing there were a couple of lads parked up 10 or some meters into the river they had to come to grief and been stuck there for sometime. Not a hard recovery at all, just like any other 4x4er helping out wherever i can.

Turns out these two are local and both said they could not remember the crossing being this bad. Some really big rocks had been washed in after some heavy flooding.

After the river crossing it's another leisurely drive up through the hills and farms to you reach the turn off to Hill End.

Hill End is the type of place you could spend days wondering around basking in the history of this epic gold rush era town.

There is so many options on what to do that it would be a shame just to go there for the day. Camping, glamping to cabin stay etc etc Well worth a few days.

Being that we have been here a heap of times before it was really more about having a break from driving and recharging the old batteries. So just a quick visit and a feed cooked up on the free BBQ's at the old hospital come museum.

Back on the road to home, a normal 6 hour trip that turned into a 10 hour mini adventure ands was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
